The Lake Macquarie Variety Playground at Speers Point Park has been awarded ‘Best Play Space in Australia’ by Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA).

The PLA awards consider innovation in design, response to community needs, project management, play value, and community satisfaction.

Council’s Manager City Projects, Adam Wakeman, said he is delighted with the result of this very special project.

“Several playgrounds of this scale have been built throughout Australia in the last few years, so it is quite an achievement for our playground to have been judged the best,” Mr Wakeman said.

The Lake Macquarie Variety Playground is an all abilities playground with a huge range of play features covering an area of approximately two hectares.  With a double flying fox, 12 metre high climbing tower and giant slide, water play area, maze, sensory garden, and bike track the playground has something for children of any age.

The award was announced at the annual PLA conference in Fremantle. The PLA is the key national professional association that provides a broad range of services to members of the parks and leisure industry.

Viva Recreation is proud to have been part of this project, supplying and installing our GIANT 9 metre slide (pictured), one of the parks main new attractions, in addition to working with Furnass Landscapes to install our Viva Rubber safety surfacing throughout the park.
