Lake Macquarie City Council Wins PLA Regional Playspace Award!
The 2011 Parks and Leisure Australia Regional Awards of Excellence have been judged, and submissions are now being reviewed for the National Awards.
Congratulations to Lake Macquarie City Council for winning the NSW and ACT Regional Playspace Award in reconition of their Lake Macquarie Variety Playground stages 3-5. The playground is designed to provide a fun and exciting playspace for all children no matter what their ability or individual needs are, to ensure that everyone can play and interact together. When the final stages are complete it will be the largest all abilities playground anywhere in Australia.
According to Parks and Leisure Australia, the Playspace Award is given to a project which can demonstrate "a unique journey that involves a range of stakeholders, contributes to the development of a sense of 'place' for it's local community and exhibits design innovation that will inspire others" and is judged on the following criteria:
- Process Method/ Community consultaion
- Design and construction quality
- Innovation and creative solutions
- Play value
- Cost effectiveness
- Social sustainability
- Team input
- Community satisfaction
- Integration with surrounding environment
- Access for all
- Promotion/ marketing of project
Viva Recreation is proud to have been part of this project, supplying and installing our GIANT 9 metre slide (pictured), one of the parks main new attractions, in addition to working with Furnass Landscapes to install our Viva Rubber safety surfacing throughout the park.
